I like to talk to young women who have dreams of starting their own business. When I was first dipping my toe into the entrepreneur waters, I had no idea of the rough waves that I’d find ahead–I’ve learned a lot and I’d never change my path. Read More…

This is Maywood Academy where I just had the chance to meet 30 young entrepreneurs through NFTE (National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship). I’m excited to work with them on realizing their ideas. The world changes one entrepreneur at a time… Read More
When I started my new company I was concerned about creating a healthy balance between company sustainability and environmental sustainability particularly as my last company was a charity. Doing the right thing was second nature. However, this hasn’t been easy as sometimes “going green” costs more then not and for a small company, this can be a difficult expense to start with. … Read More….

Yes, today is more or less One Thousand Two Hundred and Twenty Nine days ago from the day I first turned my idea of putting feet on bowls into a possibility . It may be easier to think of today as close to three and a half years ago.
I don’t remember the exact date I got the idea to leave the charity I founded (Hollywood Arts) to launch as a home accessories designer….

Today is technically day 366 – 366 days after the footed bowls were picked up by Tina Roth Eisenberg of the design blog Swiss Miss – but it seemed more romantic to note this was the one-year anniversary. Also there was a lot of development work that took place before Tina’s profile but that would be too many days to count (about a year working with a ceramics factory in Long Beach) and I think a year very symbolically marks when my “idea” became a “business” via online recognition that opened a flood gate of demand. I had just quit my job. My day job.
I was “waitressing” as the Executive Director of a foster care agency in Los Angeles while working on the bowls at night. I quit that job not actually ready to take my big leap of faith and plunge into running DK full time but because the job sucked. Regardless I found myself now sitting at home looking for a new job surrounded by a couple hundred bowls that I had just picked up from the US factory a month ago.
I just sharing this awesome post from one of my early kick-starter supporters who received her bowls today after patiently waiting months!
Check out these fun mugs we sent over to the hilarious Jimmy Kimmel! These were ordered as a thank you gift, and I think they turned out great! We can easily add a logo to our mugs, so if you’re thinking about a fun corporate gift or other branding opportunity that would be oh-so much better with feet, please email me at email@example.com and let’s talk! Wouldn’t it be wonderful if every office was sipping caffeine out of matching mugs with feet?
